Baltic Sea - Where the Gustloff FounderedThe Gustloff was torpedoed in the Baltic Sea, after it left the port of Gotenhafen (known today as Gdynia) and headed west. To locate the departure port on this map, look for the intersection of 20 degrees longitude and 55 degrees latitude. Slightly left of that is the town of Gdansk. Gotenhafen (Gdynia) is just north of Gdansk. CreditsMap, courtesy Perry Castaneda Library, University of Texas at Austin. |
