Banzai Charge at SaipanThe original of this photograph, and accompanying text, appeared in the August 28, 1944 issue of LIFE Magazine. Robert Sherrod wrote the story; W. Eugene Smith and Peter Stockpole took the pictures. Among several other large photos of Saipan events, the caption of this one is: As a jeep bears wounded Yank to rear, bulldozer scoops grave for some Saipan Japs.
