Benito Vines - Predictor of HurricanesIn 1870, Fr. Benito Viñes (a Jesuit priest) became head of the Meteorological Observatory at Belen College in Havana. Beginning his significant and important research on hurricanes, he established an observation network across Cuba. His warnings about approaching hurricanes were so remarkable that people considered his predictions to be supernatural.
