Power Plant - Pomona, First in California
According to the Annual Report of the Board of Railroad Commission of the State of California, the "first hydroelectric plant in California was constructed near Pomona by the San Antonio Light and Power Corporation and put in operation in 1891. Electric energy was transmitted a distance of 28 miles at 10,000 volts." (Report, page 64.) This is a picture of the Pomona power plant in 1956. Click on the image to greatly expand its view.
