Captain Lewis Shooting an IndianThis engraving, by Matthew Carey, depicts "Captain Lewis Shooting an Indian." It is included in the 1812 edition of A Journal of the Voyages and Travels of a Corps of Discovery, Under the Command of Capt. Lewis and Capt. Clarke by Patrick Gass. (The original book, published in 1807, was the first account to be printed by a Corps of Discovery member.)
