Christ in the House of Martha and MaryThis image is of an oil on panel, c. 1515, entitled Christ in the House of Martha and Mary. Painted by Cornelis Engebrechtsz (ca.1465-1527), it depicts an oft-interpreted scene from the Biblical Gospels - Jesus visiting his friends (Mary, Martha and Lazarus) in Bethany. Their village was about a two-mile walk from Jerusalem. |
