Churchill - Iron Curtain Speech

On the 5th of March, 1946, Winston Churchill was worried about the spread of Joseph Stalin's power throughout Europe. During a speech he gave that day in Fulton, Missouri, the former British Prime Minister said:

"From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the Continent." Then, naming cities and countries, Churchill referenced most of Central and Eastern Europe.

Calling for a firm and united stand against further Soviet encroachment, he also said:

"There is nothing they [the Soviets] admire so much as strength, and there is nothing for which they have less respect than for weakness, especially military weakness."
