Cottage, The - van Gogh PaintingPainted in 1885, by van Gogh, The Cottage is now at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. The museum has posted the following information about the painting: “This old peasant’s cottage, seen at dusk, gives a peaceful, idyllic picture of rural life. Van Gogh was fascinated by such peasant dwellings, which he called 'human nests.' "This cottage, with its double front doors and split chimney, actually housed two families. One of them was the De Groots, who posed for The Potato Eaters.
