Cuzco - Principal City of the Inca

An indigenous Peruvian, whose father was a Spaniard, has provided the world with a wealth of knowledge about the life of the Inca before the conquest.

His 1200-page book, The First New Chronicle and Good Government
On the History of the World and the Incas up to 1615
, includes four hundred pen-drawn images.  The original manuscript, by Felipe Guaman (Huaman) Poma de Ayala, is maintained by the Royal Danish Library in Copenhagen

This image is Drawing 372.  It depicts Cuzco, "principal city and royal court of the twelve Inka kings of this realm, and bishopric of the church."  Click on it for a more detailed view.
