Easter Morning - Jesus and Mary MagdaleneWhen Mary Magdalene first realized she was actually talking with Jesus, she was stunned - and reached out for him. Jesus stopped her, saying: "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God." This fresco is Giotto di Bondone's interpretation of that Easter-morning exchange. Part of his Scenes from the Life of Mary Magdalene, Noli me tangere ("Do not touch me") was created in the 1320s. It is located at the Magdalene Chapel, Lower Church, San Francesco in Assisi, Italy. |
