Evening Snow at Kanbara

Evening Snow at Kanbara was created by Ando Hiroshige between 1833 and 1843. Hiroshige was a Japanese artist, and van Gogh gained inspiration from his prints.

This one is part of Hiroshige’s series entitled Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido.  (The Tokaido was the Eastern Sea Road which connected Toyko, then called Edo, with Kyoto, the old capital.  Evening Snow at Kanbara is print-number 16 in the Hoeido Edition of that series.
