Everest - Fatal Storm of 1996

Climbers reach the top of Mount Everest on the 10th of May, 1996 a little late. Then they stay too long, celebrating their accomplishments. Seemingly out of nowhere, a terrible storm descends on the mountain, trapping members of three climbing teams.

Some of the people become incapacitated because of injuries. As Jan Arnold (Rob Hall's widow) says: "If you're stuck up there, you might as well be on the moon."

This clip is from Storm Over Everest, a PBS documentary by David Breashears, which includes interviews with survivors of Everest's worst climbing tragedy.
