FDR - First Inaugural AddressFranklin Delano Roosevelt first took the Presidential oath on the 4th of March, 1933. It was the last time an American president was sworn-in during that month. Now inaugurations occur in January. Near the beginning of his famous inaugural speech - at 2:48 into this video clip - FDR told his fellow citizens: "The only thing we have to fear is - fear itself." Note that the President, whose legs were paralyzed from polio, stood during his entire speech. CreditsFDR's inaugural address, delivered March 4, 1933. Online, courtesy C-SPAN.
