FDR - First Inaugural AddressFranklin Delano Roosevelt first took the Presidential oath on the 4th of March, 1933. It was the last time an American president was sworn-in during that month. Now inaugurations occur in January. Near the beginning of this famous inaugural speech, FDR told his fellow citizens: "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." Note that the President, whose legs were paralyzed from polio, stood during his entire speech. CreditsFDR's inaugural address, delivered March 4, 1933. Online, courtesy C-SPAN.
