Flu Outbreak - Secretaries Wear Masks
On October 16, 1918, this New York City secretary was required to wear a mask in her office. According to the National Archives: The flu prevented day-to-day operations from going smoothly. Officials advised all persons to wear face masks, even indoors. Many believed that a person could contract the disease by handling documents and equipment.
