Genghis Khan and the Siege of Beijing

Even though the people of Beijing had been without food for so long, because Genghis Khan’s men attacked their suppliers, the city still had a powerful garrison.  It was armed with determined resistors who effectively used defensive tactics.

Willing to take horrific losses of his troops, however, Genghis Khan believed the siege had run its course.  He ordered his men to attack the wall and enter the city.

From the BBC's Genghis Khan, based on a written history composed soon after the great ruler's death.
