George Washington Becomes President

After America's Revolutionary War was over, George Washington resigned his commission as commander-in-chief. He planned to retire to his Mount Vernon farm.

But the new country did not have a strong government, the Congress was ineffectual and thirteen different states had thirteen different sets of laws. Chaos threatened the very existence of the new republic.

Setting aside his desire to stay out of politics, George Washington was elected (unanimously) as president of the United States. Step back in time to learn what happened.
