Herodotus

Herodotus (c. 484 BC – c. 425 BC) is known by many historians as "The Father of History."  His motivating desire was to "prevent the traces of human events from being erased by time."  He is a major source of information on incidents involving the Persian Wars and classical Greece.

Beyond providing a mere recitation of facts, or merely focusing on military history, Herodotus provides a more human-interest narrative.  This translation of his histories includes expansive notes which will help today's readers better understand his stories.
