Independence Hall, Philadelphia

Significant events in the creation of the United States took place at the Pennsylvania State House (known today as Independence Hall) in Philadelphia. 

In addition to the vote on the Declaration of Independence (in July of 1776), later delegates (to the 1787 Federal Constitutional Convention) took a vow of secrecy there and, after closing the doors and windows (then pulling the drapes shut), they met under stifling conditions during a hot and humid Philadelphia summer. 

Both the Declaration and the Constitution were signed in the Assembly Room.
