King James I (Britain) and VI (Scotland)

King James, the son of Mary Queen of Scots, has two Roman numerals which appear behind his name.  James I means that he was the first "James" to rule Britain.  James VI means that he was the sixth "James" to rule Scotland.  This painting, of King James I/VI, is by Paul van Somer.
