Lacedaemon - Name for Ancient SpartaSparta, a leading city-state in ancient Greece, was also known as Lacdaemon (as shown in this map). Its men were warriors and, generally speaking, its citizens were known for their harsh lifestyle and laconic (short, to-the-point) speech.
