Palace of Xerxes - Magnificent Sphinx StairsAlthough the palace of Xerxes at Persepolis is extremely damaged, a staircase is still partially intact. This picture shows its central section, featuring a depiction of Ahuramazda (supreme god of the ancient Persians) with two sphinxes and several soldiers (called Immortals, or "apple bearers").
