Medgar Evers - Civil Rights LeaderMedgar Evers was the NAACP's field secretary in Jackson, Mississippi. He was highly respected, by African-Americans, and helped James H. Meredith in his efforts to become the first black person to attend Ole Miss in Oxford. On the 12th of June, 1963, Medgar Evers was fatally shot as he arrived home around midnight. Tired, he got out of the driver's side of the car - which faced a vacant lot - instead of the passenger's side.
