Nazca Lines - A Closer View

The Nazca lines are best viewed from above as it is difficult to get a proper perspective from the ground.  The lines, believed to have been formed between 200 BC and 600 A.D., are almost perfectly preserved because the land on which they were created gets little wind or precipitation.

The photograph is an up-close image of the Nazca lines.  They were formed by removing the red rock on top to reveal the white rock below.
