Neville Chamberlain - Peace in our Time Negotiations

This video clip, from a BBC documentary on Neville Chamberlain's policy of appeasement toward Hitler, provides background on the fall of Czechoslovakia in 1938.

Territory in Europe was already being given away by government leaders who lived elsewhere (and who had no authority in the countries over which they were negotiating).

Move the video forward, to 7:00, to watch Chamberlain's famous "piece of paper" speech, announcing that Germany and Britain would not fight another war.

Unknown to the British prime minister, however, Hitler had signed the "peace in our time" document without intending to follow its terms.  War would break out between the two countries in one year.
