Normandy Invasion: D-Day

This clip includes scenes of slave laborers, used by the Nazis, building formidable defenses in Hitler-controlled France. Over a four-year period, those defenses were continually strengthened.

Allied forces, meanwhile, practiced for an invasion as huge amounts of supplies were amassed in Britain. Operations were rehearsed, again and again, although the troops did not know where the invasion would actually take place.

On the 5th of June, 1944, ships departing England headed for France. It was the 4th anniversary of the Dunkirk disaster in which so many Allied troops were miraculously saved from approaching German forces.
