Orville Wright - The Historic First FlightOrville Wright was the first person in the world to fly a plane, under his own control, from the ground, through the air, and back safely. This is the moment when that occurred - on December 17, 1903. His brother, Wilbur, is standing to the right of the Wright Flyer. Orville Wright died, of a heart attack, on January 30, 1948. He had lived long enough to witness how he and his brother had changed the world. This video, from "CBS Sunday Morning," is a montage of Orville's life.
