Pantheon - Oldest Large-Dome Building in Rome

The original Pantheon was built on the current site, circa 27 B.C.  Destroyed by a fire in 80 A.D., it was replaced (c. 126 A.D.) during the reign of Emperor Hadrian.  Originally intended as a place to honor "all gods" (Pantheon's meaning, in Greek), it has been used as a Catholic Church since the 7th century.

Raphael, the famous artist, is entombed here - as are many other Roman notables.  Click on the image for a much better view.
