Reconnaissance PhotosThese photographs were taken by an American reconnaissance mission on the 26th of June, 1944. The photo on the left shows both Auschwitz I (the original concentration camp with its rail spur, located at the bottom of the photo) and Auschwitz II (the Birkenau sector, located at the top of the photo). The picture on the left shows Auschwitz III and the I.G. Farben factory and complex. The Allies were considering a bomb run over the Farben plant. Click on the image to greatly expand it.
