Roswell Daily Record - Report on "Flying Disc"

This article was the first in a series of articles written in July, 1947 about the "flying disc" recovered near Roswell.  It reports that Major Jesse A. Marcel, an Intelligence Officer of the 509th Bomb Group, recovered the wrecked disc. 

The story also states that purported eye witnesses saw the saucer fly over their home. 

The very next day, after the government got involved, the newspaper ran an article stating the crashed object was not a flying saucer, but merely a weather balloon.
