Selection Process at Auschwitz - Sophie's Choice

THIS VIDEO CLIP CONTAINS AN INTERPRETATION OF THE "SELECTION PROCESS" WHICH TOOK PLACE AT NAZI CONCENTRATION CAMPS DURING WORLD WAR TWO.  THE SCENE DEPICTED HERE, AT AUSCHWITZ, IS DEEPLY DISTURBING.  PROCEED WITH GREAT CAUTION.

In this clip from the film Sophie's Choice, based on a 1979 book of the same name by William Styron, Sophie Zawistowska - a Polish Christian who spends eighteen months at Auschwitz - is ordered to make a terrible choice.  She, the mother of two children, must personally select which child will live and which child will die in an Auschwitz gas chamber.  But Sophie tells the officer:  Ich kann nicht wählen!  ("I cannot choose!")
