Self-Portrait - van Gogh, December 1888At about the time he created this self-portrait, Vincent had a really bad day. Following a quarrel with his friend and guest, Paul Gauguin, he cut off a portion of his left ear. This painting (produced in Arles during November-December, 1888) depicts how Vincent appeared during that time of his life. It is now part of a private collection.
