Somalian Poster Depicting Ibrahim and Ishmael

This Somalian poster depicts the story of Ibrahim's binding and near sacrifice of his son Ishmael.  It parallels the Biblical story of Abraham (who is referred to as Ibrahim in the Koran), except the son is Ishmael, not Isaac.

The Islamic version of the story is also different in another significant aspect.  Muslims do not believe that Ibrahim found the sacrificial ram in a nearby thicket.  They believe the ram was from Paradise and was brought to Ibrahim by an angel who carried the ram in his arms.

People of the Jewish faith refer to this story (of Abraham and Isaac) as the Akedah.
