Brigadier General Edwin ("Bull") SumnerEdwin Vose Sumner, born in Boston, rose to the ranks of Brigadier General during the civil war. During his earlier military career, at the battle of Cerro Gordo, a musket ball glanced off his head. The result was his nickname: Bull Head (later, just Bull) Sumner.
