The Gunpowder Plot - Renting a Vault

Renting a vault under the House of Lords, conspirators stored thirty-six barrels of gunpowder for nefarious purposes. Guy Fawkes was hired to set it off when King James I was opening Parliament.

Since the Queen and the Prince of Wales would also be present, the entire male line to the throne would be killed. The conspirators would then “install” one of the king’s daughters, Princess Elizabeth, as the new sovereign. The opposition, of course, would heavily influence her.

That, at least, was the plan.
