Torture in the Middle Ages - Disembowling and BurningOne method of medieval torture, which was particularly gruesome, involved removal of a person's intenstines while the prisoner was still alive. Thereafter, tortured continued with death by burning at the stake. The process is illustrated in this illumination from The Chronicles of Froissart, maintained at the Bibliotheque Nationale de France.
