This drawing, included in the Harper's Weekly issue of April 4, 1863, depicts Union scouts in the American Civil War.  It has this caption:

"NIGHT SCOUT IN THE SOUTHWEST—SURPRISE OF AN OUTPOST, AND SURVEY OF THE REBEL GUNS."
