Virginia - Territory of Early Settlement

During the time of the Pilgrims, Virginia extended farther north than it does today.  The Leyden Separatists had permission to settle in the Virginia territory, not in New England.  No one knows, for sure, why the Mayflower made landfall so much farther north than its intended destination.
