Wilhelm Gustloff - Scenes from a Doomed ShipThe world's deadliest shipwreck is also one of its least-known tragedies. Overcrowded with women and children, who had fled the advancing Soviet Army, the Wilhelm Gustloff was torpedoed by a Soviet submarine on the 30th of January, 1945. Historians estimate that as many as ten thousand people died in the frigid waters of the Baltic Sea.
