Wilhelm Gustloff - Scenes from a Doomed Ship

The world's deadliest shipwreck is also one of its least-known tragedies. Overcrowded with women and children, who had fled the advancing Soviet Army, the Wilhelm Gustloff was torpedoed by a Soviet submarine on the 30th of January, 1945. Historians estimate that as many as ten thousand people died in the frigid waters of the Baltic Sea.

This video, which couples historical footage with recreated scenes, begins with the Gustloff's construction and ends with its current location (at the bottom of the Baltic Sea).
