Signs - A Story of Crop Circles

Lucy Pringle, a British crop circle photographer, researcher, and lecturer, took (and published) stunning crop circles photographs. They have been used by various people, for various purposes, throughout the world.

In addition to her book of photographs and interesting interviews, Lucy has graciously made her pictures available on-line. They present a fantastic summary of the crop circle phenomenon during the last decade of the 20th century.

• A 1990 pictograph, at Alton Barnes in Wiltshire, England, wasn’t the first unexplained phenomenon in this part of the UK. Home to many fascinating subjects - like Stonehenge - Wiltshire Downs is a place to explore both natural and man-made history. Many crop circles have appeared there.
  
  
• Another Wiltshire crop formation - this one at Ogbourne Maisey - was found in 1991.
  
  
• Avebury, the site of a Wiltshire prehistoric stone circle, was home to a 1994 "Spider’s Web" formation.
  
  
• An interesting and famous formation, known as a "Julia Set," was found opposite Stonehenge in 1996.
  
  
• Silbury Hill is an intriguing, mysterious Wiltshire destination. In 1997, investigators found a "Koch" fractal snowflake formation at Silbury Hill.
  
  
• Investigating the story behind crop circles, the BBC commissioned a 1998 "hoax" near Milk Hill, Wiltshire.
  
  
• Silbury Hill was the scene of another pictogram - shaped like a parallelogram - in 1999.
  
  
• Alton Barnes, Wiltshire, is the scene of one of England’s famous white chalk horses. In 2000, nearby Milk Hill was home to a six-pointed crop star.
  
  
• Many crop circles have shown up in the fields of Hampshire, England. In 2001, a formation was found in Longwood Warren, near Hampshire.
  
  
• On the 4th of July, 2002, an elaborate formation near Stonehenge leads one to question whether it was a hoax.

"Circle makers," people who acknowledge their destruction of farmers’ fields to create crop circles, are now being prosecuted in the UK. Scientists who study the phenomenon, called cereologists, acknowledge that the vast majority of crop formations are now made by hoaxers.

By what of the others? What have scientists found within those crop circles?
