Marsha currently works in the Detroit school district as a social studies teacher.  She has been involved in many professional development and training initiatives including National Board training, College Board training, and ISTE conferences. Marsha’s students have presented on National History Day to the Michigan Geographic Alliance. Marsha has been featured in articles and recognized by peers for demonstrated teaching abilities. Her school, Detroit Lions Academy offers students a comprehensive learning experience in preparation for high school. The school provides additional academic and social support in a small learning community. The comprehensive curriculum, intended to increase student achievement, includes Accelerated Reading and Math, Project-based learning, individualized assignments, data driven instruction, and Netbooks for each student. One hundred percent of the content-area instructional staff are rated highly qualified.

I use Awesome Stories to support differentiated instruction. I find using the Awesome Stories videos with chapter instruction helps students to better gauge contributions and visualize historical events.
