Albert Schweitzer - Preface

"Albert Schweitzer", The Purpose of Life, A to Z quotes, Fair Use.

Albert Schweitzer was a deeply religious man who, at the age of 21, promised God that at the age of 30 – after making the most of the blessings and opportunities he had received – he would dedicate his life in gratitude to helping mankind.

He gave up the life of a growing celebrity as a musician, cleric, and professor for the satisfaction of helping others as a physician in a jungle hospital in Gabon, on the west coast of Africa.

Albert appeared to many not as the talented intellectual that he was, as he rejected all praise and adulation.  He dressed in rumpled clothes and appeared to be a simple person.  Yet, he had a robust ego and ran his isolated hospital with benevolence and dedication to the human condition.

This is his amazing story.
