Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. became the Vice-Presidential running mate for President William McKinley after the sitting Vice President - Garret Hobat - died in office.

This map of the 1900 U.S. presidential election depicts how the country was divided (at that time) between Republicans and Democrats. 

McKinley-Roosevelt won the 1900 election.
