Alexander Solzhenitsyn - Leaving America

Mikhael Gorbachev restored Alexander Solzhenitsyn's citizenship in 1990.  Thereafter, the Nobel Laureate made plans to return to Russia.

In this clip, from a documentary about Solzhenitsyn, we see the family making plans for the departure.  The writer's wife (Natalya) and two of their sons (Yermolai and Stepan) were also traveling to Russia while Ignat (a concert pianist) remained in the States.

Traveling from east to west, the Solzhenitsyns land in Vladivostok and take the Trans-Siberia Railway to Moscow.  Riding on a train, across the vast land he once knew only as a prisoner,  Solzhenitsyn makes a purposeful choice.
