This detailed map - from the Map Atlases Collection at the U.S. Military Academy - depicts many important items which existed as of D-Day morning (June 6, 1944).  Among other things are:

  • The location of Allied Forces in England, before the Normandy invasion began;
  • The location of German Forces in France, before the Normandy invasion began;
  • Origination points of the Western Task Force (heading to Utah and Omaha Beaches)
  • Origination points of the Eastern Task Force (heading to Gold, Juno and Sword Beaches)
  • The large number of German Forces at the Strait of Dover (and the Calais area) where England and France are closest to each other (geographically)
