This image depicts two memorial sculptures created by Käthe Kollwitz called The Grieving Parents.

The parents—representing the artist and her husband—are shown to be in physical and emotional pain as they stand watch over the grave of their World-War-One-era son, Peter.

The memorial is located at the Roggevelde German war cemetery, near Vladslo, north of Ypres, Belgium.
