Atomic Bomb, Little Boy - Destined for Hiroshima

Little Boy was the atomic bomb which detonated over Hiroshima on August 6, 1945

This image depicts “Little Boy,” the atomic bomb which exploded 1,870 feet above the city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.

Here, the bomb unit (L-11) is positioned on a trailer cradle in a pit, waiting to be loaded onto the Enola Gay.  The bomb bay door is open and visible in the upper right-hand corner.

Maintained by the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration, this picture has the following NARA description:
