Auvers Town Hall on 14 July 1890 - van Gogh Geography Biographies Famous People Social Studies Visual Arts Nineteenth Century Life

In France, people celebrate "Bastille Day" on July 14th.  In the summer of 1890, the town hall of Auvers-sur-Oise - where Vincent van Gogh was then living - was decorated for Bastille Day.

Vincent produced his interpretation of the town hall's appearance on that day, as depicted in this image.  The original oil-on-canvas is part of the Private Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Leigh B. Block.
