Bayeux Tapestry - Isti Mirant Stella, Close Up

Bayeux Tapestry - Isti Mirant Stella, Close Up World History Famous Historical Events History Social Studies

This image provides a close-up view of the Bayeux Tapestry's "Isti Mirant Stella" panel.

Depicting events which occurred in 1066, the tapestry's characters are looking, in astonishment, at what they perceive to be a star ("Stella") with long hair.

Many years later, scholars realized that the "Stella," in this tapestry, was actually Halley's Comet (which made an appearance in 1066).
