Behistun Inscription - Old Persian Passage Archeological Wonders Ancient Places and/or Civilizations Geography Law and Politics Social Studies

This image depicts a segment of the Behistun Inscription - Column 1 (DB I 1-15) - which is written in "Old Persian."  The sketch was created by Friedrich von Spiegel (in 1881).

By comparing the words of this language to something he already knew, Sir Henry Creswicke Rawlinson was able to also work on "cracking the code" of the other unknown languages on the Behistun Inscription.
