Big Ben - Inside the Famous Clock

"Big Ben," London's famous clock, began keeping time on May 31, 1859. It first-chimed on July 11th, that same year.

Here are a few interesting facts to know (and issues to ponder) regarding this awesome clock (and its famous chimes):

  • Do you know that pennies were used, in a very special way, to keep the clock accurate?
  • Do you know the measurements of its largest bell, called Big Ben?  (Hint:  it weighs 13 tons.)

This video - by Guy Fox - provides delightful background on the inner workings of one of the most-recognized clocks (and beautifully chiming bells) in the world.
